Two robbers jailed to 41 years imprisonment

An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Aboagye Tandoh has sentenced two armed robbers to a total of 41 years imprisonment with hard labour.
The two were convicted after prosecution has proven beyond reasonable doubt that they perpetrated that act.
The first convict, Isaac Agyemang Asamani was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment whilst the second convict, Desmond Opoku was also sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.
They had early pleaded not guilty to the crimes levelled against them and were convicted after a full trial.
The facts of the case are that the Complainants, Boakye Boampong and Kwasi Boampong Boakye are research fellow and electrical engineer respectively residing at Sakumono Estate, while the convicts are traders.
On 16th June, 2017, at about 9:00 pm, the Complainants returned home from work and when they got to their entrance, Kwasi Boampong Boakye alighted from a silver Hyundai Creta 4×4, with registration number GW 5630-17, to open the gate while Boakye Boampong drove the car into the house.
Kwasi Boampong Boakye in the process of closing the gate, was attacked by the two convicts who were in masks and had guns.
Prosecution said they, collected the complainants’ iPhone 5 and 6, Acer laptop, HP i3 laptop, a wallet containing GH₵200, £75, a Barclays bank card, a U.K driver’s license, an Olympus 712 recorder, a Diesel wrist watch and the Hyundai Creta.
He said the convicts used their guns to hit the heads of the two complainants, injuring them in the process.
The complainants reported the case to the Police and police medical forms were issued to them to take to the hospital for examination.
On 18th June, 2017, the convicts were apprehended at McCarthy Hills.  A search conducted in their rooms led to the retrieval of the wrist watch and the laptop bag.
They were taken to the Sakumono Police station immediately for interrogation.
During interrogation, the first convict told Police that on 16th June, 2017, at about 11pm, his friends, Kwaku and Dela brought a 4×4 vehicle with a 2017 registration to his house to take him out but he declined.
He also claimed on 17th June, 2017 he came out of his house and saw the laptop bag with the wrist watch in it.
