Two traders, Trotro mate nabbed for robbery
Two traders and
Driver’s (Trotro) mate have been arraigned for robbing another Driver’s mate of
his mater’s GHË1600.00 at Kwame
Nkrumah Circle when he went to ease himself around Mechanical Lloyd.
The Driver’s mate
Joseph Odoi Laryea (complainant) was said to have been sent by his boss to
collect the said amount for him but was attacked when he was attending nature’s
call.
The three accused
persons who are also mates at the Circle Lorry station, Amponsah Michael,
Frederick Yeboah and Odifour Kofi Badu when arraigned on Tuesday morning pleaded
not guilty.
They have been charged
with Conspiracy to commit crime to wit robbery contrary to Section23(1) of Act
29/60 and 149 and Robbery contrary to section 149 of Act 29/60.
Their plea for bail
was declined by Mr. Aboagye Tandoh who presided over the case as prosecution
insisted they must be under their watch.
Meanwhile their other
three accomplices, are currently on the run.
The case has been
adjourned to March 28, 2017 for full trial to commence.
The facts are that,
the complainant in the case is a driver’s mate whilst the accused persons
Amponsah Michael, Frederick Yeboah and Odifour Kofi Badu are Driver’s mate and
trader respectively.
According to Chief Inspector
Kwabena Adu, on March 7, 2017, the grandfather of the complainant sent him to Medwest
Company at Graphic Road to collect cash in the sum of GHË1600.00.
He added that, the
complainant after collecting the said money decided to walk to Kwame Nkrumah
Circle to board vehicle home.
On reaching the
Mechanical Lloyd company area near Awudome Cemetery, the complainant decided to
attend to nature’s call and went behind the building to do so. After he
finished the Amponsah, (A1) attacked him
with a cut less and succeed in roving GHË1600.00 from his pocket and matched the complainant to their kiosk at
100 meters from the gutter.
The Prosecutor said, second
and third accused persons (Frederick Yeboah and Odifour Kofi Badu) and three
others currently at large also joined the first accused and shared the stolen
money among themselves and later threatened the complainant with a cutlass to
leave the scene. The witness in this case assisted the complainant and arrested
Amponsah Michael, Frederick Yeboah and Odifour Kofi Badu together with GHË200.00 each found on them. The other three
accused persons managed to abscond with their share of the money.
Official complaint was
lodged against them and after investigation they were charged with the offences.
