Footballer gets 20 years in the cooler for defilement
An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 30-year-old a footballer to 20 years imprisonment for defiling an eight year old girl at Kisseman, Accra.
The convict, Vessel Kwasi Yeboah, had pleaded not guilty of defilement which was levelled against him
He was convicted after prosecution had proved beyond any reasonable doubt that he committed the offence in a full trial.
The trial judge, Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, convicted him to 20 years with hard labour to serve a deterrent to others.
Briefing the court, Inspector Judith Asante said the complainant in the matter was a Chop bar operator aged 27 and mother of the victim.
According to the prosecutor, the victim lived with her grandmother at Agona Nyarkrom in the Central Region but came to spend some holidays with her mother at Kisseman, Accra whilst the convict also resides near the complainant’s house.
Inspector Asante said on August 27, 2015, at about 5:30pm the complainant returned from town and found out that the victim was not in a good mood and the younger brother of the victim who is four years then informed the complainant that he saw blood stains in the pants of the victim whiles she was washing.
Prosecution said, based on that the complainant asked the victim, she informed her mother that whiles she (complainant) was away she and her brother went to watch television in the convict’s room.
Whilst in the room, the victim said Yeboah (convict)asked her to come and lay on his mattress on the floor and she obliged and took advantage of that and defiled her whilst the victim’s brother was in the room.
After the act, Yeboah (convict) told her not to inform anyone so victim and her brother left his room.
The matter was then reported to the Police where Yeboah was arrested while a Medical form was issued by the Police for the victim to medically examined and treated.
