Thinking about online dating? 4 rules for nailing the perfect profile picture

if you're thinking about venturing into the world of online dating, there are a few things you should think about — after all, it's the first impression you'll likely make on someone swiping from the opposite end.

1. Make sure your primary photo is ONLY of you

  • Multiple people creates confusion. Confusion creates rejection. Time is limited for that first impression, and asking the viewer to sort out a photo is asking too much.
  • Think about this: if the other person you're with is MORE attractive than you, the viewer will want to be messaging them instead. If the other person is LESS attractive than you, the viewer will be worried that that's who the profile's for.
  • Unless you're there with your identical twin, stand alone in your primary profile picture.
2. You don't always have to smile
  • Especially for guys, OkCupid has found that smiling photos actually underperform "straight-faced" ones.
  • Don't look menacing. Staring down the camera like it owes you money — yes, guys do this surprisingly often — is the worst thing you can do.

3. Selfies are fine, just don't take them in the bathroom

  • Toilet paper, shampoo, and a dirty shower curtain probably aren't setting the mood of seduction and intrigue you're looking for.
4. Include at least one picture of you doing something interesting

  • If you like rock-climbing, show yourself in harness. The same goes for traveling — if that's your interest, show yourself on your favorite beach. If you play music, show yourself rocking out.
  • Give the viewer an easy conversation-starter ("Hey! I've been to Tulum, too!") and to communicate, very concisely, something that's important to you.
  • The quicker the viewer gets an accurate sense of who you are, the better off you both will be.

Ready to start dating again? 15 tips for getting back in the game after divorce

Divorce is one of the most traumatic events we go through, and when we reach the proverbial "light at the end of the tunnel," many of us feel that little spring in our step and start to think about dating again.
So how can you start off on the right foot when you're just beginning to dip your toes back into the dating pool? Here are 15 essential tips to follow:

1. Be psychotically optimistic about love.

Psychotic optimism is my philosophy on love, which I’m spreading to everyone who will listen. It means this: “Love will come to me — it’s a WHEN, not an IF. I’m in it to win it, not in it for a minute.”

2. Make sure you are HEALED before you start dating.

At this point, I hope you’ve done the "inside work" necessary to find a healthy relationship. Do you understand what went wrong in your relationship? Are you aware of your role in the marriage’s demise? And, have you made as much peace as possible with your ex and the divorce?
Dating from a place of anger doesn’t usually lead to good choices. Don’t skip the counseling sessions — they will help tremendously down the road.

3. Create a marriage map.

Can you identify what a new, good, happy relationship looks like to you? If not, beware. Human beings are usually creatures of habit. We do what is comfortable instead of what is right.
So, if you were married to a narcissist, without the knowledge of what a narcissist acts like in the beginning, you may find yourself on the same dysfunctional merry-go-round again.
Make sure your past is legitimately in the past, so you don’t end up choosing the wrong kinds of people again and again for the wrong reasons. I coach all of my clients through a “marriage map” exercise to create a road map of a partner that will make them happy, which is necessary to start picking the right people.

4. Start doing things that make YOU happy.

What makes you happy? Many women stare blankly at me when I ask this question, because they’ve been so busy taking care of everyone else around them that they’ve totally lost sight of what makes them happy. Make a list of five to 10 things that bring you joy, and start to do them again.

5. Develop your “dating village.”

Dating after divorce isn’t easy, and will require a great group of people surrounding you to keep you motivated and inspired! Maybe it’s your buddies from work, school, your family, neighbors or kids.

If you don’t have the built-in village, consider enlisting a professional, someone who can help you maintain enthusiasm and set and achieve goals. The dating village should be filled with people who support you and will bring you up, instead of bringing you down.

6. Understand that character and compatibility count the most.

Once you have a road map of a partner that makes you happy, give attraction and chemistry a chance to develop, even if it takes five or more dates to figure it out. After you feel the chemistry, look carefully for the “interior” traits that count, like kindness, reliability, consistency, honesty and intelligence first.
Ask questions like: Are you compatible? Is this person willing to accept you, your complexities, maybe your children? Do you want similar things in life? Are you on the same page with regards to finances, parenting, living situations, marriage or more kids?

7. Know that your future mate will come to you, but in a highly unexpected package!

Don’t rule out someone who is a little taller, shorter, skinner, heavier, a different color, older or younger than you “think” is your type. You should be attracted to the person, as that is so important for the long term! But be open on your idea of “the package.”

8. Get online, and do it the right way!

You need to have excellent photos (starting with a great smiling headshot). That includes great head-to-toe shots as well as of you and only you! No kids, grandkids, pets or friends.
9. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket.
As women, we often feel like we just want to date one person at a time. This is a big mistake for many reasons. Dating should be like a horse race — you need many horses to make it a race! The horse that’s winning on the first lap might break its leg and might need to be taken out of the race.
When I say "date," I'm referring to the old-school style of dating — not sleeping together or hooking up. Have a good vetting process and keep the pipeline filled.

10. Go to groups and events where you can meet like-minded people.

If you’ve always wanted to take up photography, find a group that welcomes new budding photographers. Joining groups is a great way to dip your toe back in the water and start making new friends — and maybe new dating connections!

11. Text, but be in control.

Texting is OK as a “heads-up” method of communication, like, “I’m running five minutes late.” But it shouldn’t take the place of all communication, and texting too much can lead to premature intimacy. If you feel that someone texts you too much, suggest that you chat by phone instead! There’s no better way to get to know someone than talking and spending time together.

12. Practice “sex-clusivity."

In a new relationship, you should be “exclusive” and feel good and secure in your relationship. Sex can be great but, had too early, can cause the demise of a relationship as we are caught in a fog of oxytocin, estrogen, testosterone and dopamine.
Sure, there are a few couples that had sex early on and it turned into a happy marriage, but those are pretty few and far between. Waiting until you are exclusive is a great way to stay the happy course!

13. Understand what a good dating trajectory looks like.

Fast and furious usually flames out. Beware of going out five times in a week with someone you just met! One date per week within a few weeks turns into two dates per week, and then three dates per week. Within two months, you’ve had “the discussion” and have defined an exclusive relationship!

14. Know that you cannot fix anyone!

You do not want to date a fixer-upper. The only person you can change is yourself. The only way another person will change is if he/she wants to change himself.

15. Be patient.

Dating is a process. As much as you’d like it to be super efficient and speedy, it’s usually not, nor should it be. There will be ups and downs, weeks where you have many dates, and weeks where you have none. Keep going no matter what. Patience, perseverance and positivity are crucial.

High-heeled shoes for babies spark online backlash

WASHINGTON - A US footwear company has come under fire online over its range of high-heeled shoes for babies, according to reports.
Consumers and campaign groups are outraged over the product line by Pee Wee Pumps, which it describes as "cool" and "diva defining".
The company makes soft shoes for infants.
Pictures of the high-heel fashion range posted online have led to criticism on social media sites, said the BBC.
The shoes, which have collapsible heels and pointed toes, are available for infants up to six months old, the British broadcaster reported.
In the latest post on the company's Facebook page, an infant in heels sits astride a miniature motorbike with the caption: "This little #Diva, defining cool posing in her #PeeWeePumps."
The image was criticised by a number of the site's users, who suggested it was "wrong" and "disgusting" to portray infants in such a way. It comes amid growing concern at what is seen as the sexualisation of children, the BBC said..
"This is not ok," wrote Melissa Balinski.
Another commenter, Jen, said that "promoting products for babies this way is just sick".
Other promotional images for Pee Wee Pumps products include babies wearing bead necklaces, sequin dresses and tutus.
The range of shoes, which features styles made from red satin and leopard-skin material, have repeatedly met mixed responses from Facebook users, said the BBC.
"I will definitely avoid this brand," wrote Barrow, commenting on a picture of a baby in "black pump classics".
"This is horrid," added user Flory.
“Makes me sick to my stomach, exploiting INFANTS......wow mothers are crazy,” Sienna Rose wrote.
But some users left positive comments, remarking how the shoes made the infants "look adorable".
"Too cute," wrote Latoyia.
The Pee Wee Pumps website displays a range of designs, labelled "Swanky", "Wild Child" and "Diva".
"She'll make a statement in this bold, red hue," reads the product description alongside a design labelled "Sassy".
According to the BBC, the company came under fire earlier this month (March 2017) from British campaign group Let Clothes Be Clothes, which posted images of the product range for infants with the warning "beware, the photos are shocking".
"I will definitely avoid this brand," wrote Owen.
"That's disturbing. Even without the heels the pics would be not even remotely okay," wrote Eva.
Another user, Natasha, added to the campaign group's post: "Should be banned."
Pee Wee Pumps is based in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. The founder, Michele Holbrook, wrote in a statement on the company website that her products "are not intended for walking, but rather to meet the current and ever-growing popular demand for 'high-fashion' in infant apparel".

Tehoda to get GHs23,000 compensation, 5-yrs back pay

tehoda-4
DSP Gifty Tehoda, the police woman who was wrongfully dismissed from the Police Service in 2012, is to receive GHs 23,000 as compensation in addition to an accumulated five (5) years’ salary. She is also entitled to all promotions due her through the period of her dismissal from the service, according to an order of the Human Rights Division of the High Court, which ordered her reinstatement in the service today [Friday, March 31, 2017]. The court, presided over by Justice Gifty Adjei Addo, ruled that the dismissal of the officer was wrong. According to Justice Adjei Addo, DSP Tehoda was unlawfully detained by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) in 2012, when she was picked up following the ‘cocaine-turned-baking soda’ saga at the Police Headquarters. The judge also held that the police breached the rule of natural justice for a fair hearing, as DSP Tehoda was not given an opportunity to be heard during the service enquiry by the police leading to her dismissal.

The case involving DSP Tehoda began on September 27, 2011, when one Nana Ama Martins was arrested for possessing large parcels suspected to be cocaine, which later turned into bicarbonate or baking soda. DSP Tehoda was linked to the disappearance of the cocaine and was interdicted and subsequently dismissed from the Police Service. She was then the Deputy Commander in-charge of the Commercial Crimes Unit. But three years after her acquittal, the Police Service did not reinstate her, forcing her to go to the Human Rights High Court to challenge the wrongful dismissal by the Ghana Police Service.

Man dares Nana Addo on galamsey

A youngman who claims to be engaged in illegal mining has cautioned the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not to proceed with plans to clamp down on illegal mining.
In a video widely shared on social media, the young bearded man who calls himself Bronzy and a resident of East Legon said the president and his government must rethink their plans before they destroy their business.
In the video Bronzy claimed he owned the pit, which had dozens of illegal miners operating at the time he shot the video.
He also showed off an excavator, which he said he owned and was being used for his operations.
His comments come after the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr John Peter Amewu, gave a three-week ultimatum to all illegal miners to stop their activities or be prepared to face the full rigours of the law.
“This time round, we will not take things lightly because we believe that China and India are the sources of funding for these illegal miners; so we are dealing with the root cause of the menace,” Mr Amewu said in an interview with Graphic Online on Tuesday.
But according to Bronzy, government must rethink its position because the NPP government wasn’t voted into power to ruin their source of livelihood.

UMB to support 1-district-1 factory initiative with $100m

Management of the Universal Merchant Bank has earmarked $100 million to support government’s one district, one factory initiative.
A management team of the bank led by its Board Chairperson, Mrs. Betty Zormelo, disclosed this when they paid a courtesy call on the President, Nana Akufo-Addo.
Addressing the President, CEO of the bank, John Awuah, said the bank has already setup a department that will be solely responsible for assisting and financing anyone who will be interested in developing or building a factory in the country.
Describing the one district, one factory policy as grandiose, he said every district of the country had a certain economic potential that could be exploited when an adjoining factory was put in place.
He said the initiative by the government was well-thought out and one that would accelerate the development of the country.
Mr Awuah added that in 2016, the UMB established the “UMB Centre for Businesses,” a stand-alone unit designed to set a new standard in the delivery of SME Banking Services.
“We have leveraged on this solid SME banking experience to set up a UMB PPP Incubator Centre” solely for the purposes of supporting the needs of enterprises that seek to partner with the government on the “One District, One Factory” concept,” he said.
The President described the announcement as one of his birthday gifts adding that it is a welcome news to him and his government.
He said the devotion of the government to ensuring even development across the country could only be achieved through the one district, one factory initiative.
But its success, he said, was conditioned on the active involvement of the private sector in providing the resources within the investor-friendly environment created by the government.

The court also awarded a cost of GHS23,000 in damages and cost against the Police Service.

Joe Ghartey report has unresolved issues – Emile Short

Former CHRAJ boss, Emile Francis Short
Former CHRAJ boss, Justice Emile Francis Short, says the report of the Joe Ghartey Committee instituted to investigate a bribery claim against some MPs has not fully resolved all the issues.
He said there are some “unresolved issues” despite a contempt finding made against Bawku Central Member of Parliament (MP), Mahama Ayariga who made the allegation.
The University of London-trained lawyer questioned why the Committee delved into issues that were not part of its terms of reference.
“The issue of contempt was not before the Committee… it wasn’t one of the terms of reference,” he said on Joy FM’s Midday News Friday.
There was chaos in Ghana’s Parliament after a Committee empowered to investigate a bribery claim against some MPs on the Appointments Committee read its recommendations.
The Joe Ghartey Committee told MPs Thursday it found no evidence to support Mr Ayariga’s claim that GHC3,000 was handed to some minority MPs.
“The Committee is at a loss…there is no evidence that money was given to the MPs,” Mr Ghartey who chaired the Committee said.
Chairman of Parliament's bribery investigative committee, Joe Ghartey
He also said there was no evidence that Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko offered any money to bribe legislators.
“There is no evidence that this committee can rely on that First Deputy Speaker Joe Osei Owusu gave money to Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka,” Mr Ghartey added.
The Committee’s finding dismisses Mr Ayariga’s repeated claim that he was offered GHC3,000 by Mr Muntaka and he returned same after he was told the money came from Mr Boakye.
He peddled this allegation on several media platforms triggering public outcry over the activities of MPs.
Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga
The Committee said after a “critical evaluation” of Mr Ayariga’s claim, it established he gave “credence to rumour that circulated in the media.”
“We find it unfortunate as he failed to ascertain the veracity of the rumour,” Mr Ghartey said.
The Committee went ahead to find Mr Ayariga guilty of contempt as spelt out in Article 112 of the 1992 Constitution as well as Order eight of Parliament’s Standing Orders because of his failure to prove the allegation.
It recommended Parliament to “reprimand” the MP and demand an apology for the “deadly injury” he has caused the image of the House.
First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Osei Owusu cleared of bribery
The Bawku Central MP has been dissatisfied with the work done by the Committee.
In his reaction on the floor of Parliament, he said the Committee was mandated to establish facts and not to outline sanctions.
Mr Ayariga’s position has been supported by Mr Short who said the Joe Ghartey Committee acted beyond its remit.
He said the Committee should have focused on its terms of reference which did not include a recommendation of sanctions.
He also said the failure of the Committee to allow Mr Ayariga to cross-examine the witnesses blights its work.

Delta Force backtracks, pledges support to Security Coordinator

Members of the pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante group, the Delta Force, have pledged support to Mr. George, the Ashanti regional Security Coordinator they initially attacked. This follows an intervention by the National Executive Council of the NPP.

The Delta Force Security Coordinator, Kwadwo Bamba, speaking to Citi News affirmed his group’s commitment to the Ashanti regional Security Coordinator saying, “we will support Mr. Adjei, and anybody the President appoints we will support him”.
He also noted that, the NPP NEC had accepted their apology. Kwadwo Bamba, who was arrested in connection with the attack, has already apologized to President Nana Akufo-Addo and members of the party for the assault on George Agyei.
This development comes as President Akufo-Addo begins a three-day thank you tour of the Ashanti Region today [Friday].
Delta Force members arrested Meanwhile, 14 members of the Delta Force have so far been arrested by the Ashanti regional police command. The Ashanti regional police commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, confirming this to Citi News said, “we are arraigning them on Tuesday April 4th.”
Members of the vigilante group invaded the premises of the Regional Coordinating Council last week on March 24, and mishandled the newly appointed Security Coordinator, Mr. George Adjei.
They destroyed property and forced the Security Coordinator out of his office. They demanded that he should be relieved of his post because they would not work with him. The Security Coordinator was however saved by the timely intervention of the police.

Two unemployed Nigerian traffickers in Court

Two Nigerians, who were busted by the Police last week Friday when they were allegedly transporting girls for prostitution have been put before an Accra Circuit Court.
the two accused persons, Ify Mba, and Ammanda Eze Chioma, both unemployed, allegedly coerced the six young ladies who are between the ages of 20 to 26, into prostitution after they have brought them into Ghana for transit to Dubai and Germany.
The two pleaded not guilty to the charge of human trafficking, contrary to section 2(1) of the Hum Trafficking Act 2005 (694) as amended by section 1(1) of Human Trafficking Act 2009 of Act (784).
Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, the presiding judge, granted them bail in the sum of GHc70,000.00 with three sureties each, one of which is to be justified.
Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo told the court that the complainants are police officers at Baatsonaa District Police Command, while the victims were Nigerian nationals brought to Ghana by the accused persons.
She said the accused persons, together with another, now at large, are Nigerian nationals who came to Ghana and are lodging at Kormens Hotel, Baatsonaa.
On March 24, at about 1900 hours, the police had information that a group of Nigerian girls were spotted being escorted by some women into a hotel within Baatsonaa for solicitation.
The prosecution said based on intelligence, the police embarked on an operation and arrested the accused persons, and also six other young ladies ages between 21 and 26.
ASP Boafo told the court that the ladies immediately informed the police that they were brought from Nigeria by the accused persons on transit to Germany and Dubai to be employed as house helps, however they were forced by the accused persons to go into soliciting upon their arrival in the country.
She said the police discovered that four of the victims were brought on March 14, and locked up in a hotel room and made to swear an oath to go into solicitation in night clubs in Baatsonaa to pay 555,000.00 Naira equivalents to $2,000.00 dollars to the accused persons.
She said two other victims were brought into the country on March 23, and made to go through the same ritual.
The victim’s complained that they were not given food and water when some of them refused to cooperate to go into the solicitation business.

The prosecution told the court that in their caution statements, the two accused persons denied the offence and after investigations, were charged accordingly.
